For Curious First-Years Ready to Test Drive Studying Abroad
Discover is where your global journey begins. Designed exclusively for first-year students, this short-term, faculty-led program takes place over UGA’s Spring Break and introduces you to a new culture through immersive, hands-on experiences. You’ll explore a wide range of cultural, historical, economic, and social topics alongside a UGA faculty member, a UGA staff director, and fellow first-year students from across campus. Whether you’re trying international foods, visiting museums, or engaging with local communities, Discover is all about gaining exposure, building curiosity, and learning from the world around you, all while building friendships and finding your place at UGA.
Discover Locations for 2026
By participating in this faculty-led program, you’ll earn academic credit and fulfill UGA’s Experiential Learning graduation requirement (approved for most majors).
Program fees vary by destination. HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships may be applied toward tuition, while additional scholarships and financial aid can often be used toward program costs. All students participating in Discover programs will receive a scholarship from the Office of Experiential Learning to be used toward program fees. For more information on Study Away funding, visit the Office of Global Engagement. You may also be eligible for additional scholarship support through one of our global education partners, WorldStrides.

How do I increase my chances of being accepted into a Connect Abroad program?
- First and foremost, describe why you want to go to a specific location beyond enjoying travel. Why does this place matter to you and what are you hoping to see, learn, and experience?
- Tell us about YOU! What are your interests? What do you do for fun?
- If you are applying to more than one program, rate your choices by preference in the application portal.
- Do you have questions or concerns about the program or traveling? Don’t hesitate to reach out! We can talk to you and/or connect you with a student who has traveled on a Connect Abroad program in the past to give you an idea of what to expect.
