Vaccinations and Off-Campus Learning

Overview:

Students may be required by off-campus partnering organizations to wear masks and/or be vaccinated as a condition of participation in experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad programs, externships and delivery of medical services.

Rationale:

Students participating in off-campus experiences approved for Experiential Learning (Co-Ops; Externships; Internships; Undergraduate Research; Project-Based Learning; Volunteering/Shadowing; etc.)  may be asked to comply with a Coronavirus Vaccination Mandate by the employer or off-campus partner.

University System of Georgia guidance states that “[s]tudents may be required by off-campus partnering organizations to wear masks and/or be vaccinated as a condition of participation in experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad programs, externships and delivery of medical services.”

If a student does not wish to comply with a third-party condition of participation (i.e., vaccination, maintaining liability insurance, physical examination, background/drug check, etc.), the student’s college can engage in an interactive process to attempt to find the student an alternative experiential learning placement that meets program requirements.  Additionally, the Office of University Experiential Learning is available for support and can be reached at ugael@uga.edu.
