Approved Blanket Statements

The following schools and colleges have approved blanket statements for certain courses and activities that fulfill the Experiential Learning requirement.


College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (as of Fall 2018)

Students in any major (or undeclared students in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences) may fulfill the requirement:

  • though participation in any UGA-sponsored exchange program at http://goabroad.uga.edu/.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course.
  • through any service learning course (denoted with an S-suffix).

College of Education

Students in any major (or undeclared students in the College of Education) may fulfill the requirement:

  • by taking any courses from another UGA school or college list of approved courses for Experiential Learning.
  • by completing any non-course activity that has been approved for experiential learning at the university level. 
  • though participation in any UGA approved study abroad or field study program.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.
  • through any service learning course (denoted with an S-suffix).

College of Environment and Design

Students in the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) program may fulfill the EL requirement:

  • through any CED or UGA approved study abroad program or field study program.
    Approved Field study courses within the CED include: LAND 4400, LAND 4410, LAND 4440 ,LAND 4800
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.
  • through any CED or UGA approved service learning course (denoted with an S-suffix).
    Approved “S” Courses within the CED include: LAND 3030S, LAND 3040S, LAND 4050S, LAND 4060S, LAND 4080S, LAND 4090S, LAND 4095S, LAND 4370S. LAND 4420S, LAND 4750S,LAND 4900S, LAND 4910S, HIPR 4100S , HIPR 4330S , HIPR 4460S, HIPR 4680S

College of Family and Consumer Sciences

Students in any major (or undeclared students in FACS) may fulfill the requirement:

  • though participation in any UGA approved study abroad or field study program.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.
  • through any service learning course (denoted with an S-suffix).

Franklin College of Arts and Sciences

Students in any major (or undeclared students in Franklin) may fulfill the requirement:

  • through any UGA-approved study abroad or field school program.
  • through an honors thesis research project.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.
  • through any service-learning course (denoted with an S-suffix).

Selected non-credit experiences in Franklin College may fulfill the requirement: those instances in which students participate in the same group experience, not-for-credit, as other students who have registered for credit-bearing courses associated with the experience. E.g.,

  • University Theatre Season productions
  • Participation in music ensembles

In these cases, students are asked to submit an exception request to the Franklin College Dean’s Office for consideration and approval.


Grady College of Journalism

Students in the Grady College may fulfill the requirement:

  • through participation in any Grady-sponsored study abroad or domestic field study program. With prior approval of the Experiential Learning Certification Officer, non-Grady-sponsored study abroad or domestic field study programs may satisfy the requirement.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.

Odum School of Ecology

Students majoring in Ecology may fulfill the requirement:

  • through ecologically focused study abroad programs with significant field experiences. Student must seek approval from the Experiential Learning Certification Officer.

School of Public and International Affairs

Students in any major  may fulfill the requirement:

  • through any UGA-approved study abroad or field school program.
    SPIA-sponsored programs include Maymester in China; SPIA at Oxford; and GLOBIS study abroad courses in Stellenbosch, South Africa; Asia; Verona, Italy; and Ecuador.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.
  • through any service-learning course (denoted with an S-suffix).

School of Social Work

Students in the BSW Program in the School of Social Work may fulfill the requirement:

  • through any UGA-approved study abroad or field school program.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.
  • through any service-learning course (denoted with an S-suffix).

Terry College of Business

Students in Terry College may fulfill the requirement:

  • through any UGA-approved study abroad or field school program.
  • through any CURO undergraduate research course, CURO Research Assistantship, or CURO Summer Fellowship.
